STAT for PSW District

School Technology Advisory Team - Pacific Southwest District - LCMS

This year at CAPSO there were so many good Technology sessions. I couldn't even go to all the ones I wanted to. Then there were all the other Sessions that I would love to attend, like Lucas Fitzgerald's (A member on here) session on Christian Apologetics. I then feel bad for the presenters like Alan who has two sessions and he misses out on some of his own learning time. I digress. I got to sit in on Alan's PLN session on Monday. There was maybe four individuals in there that understood what he was talking about. Maybe 20ish (correct me if I am wrong Alan) that didn't have a clue and maybe 2 that didn't know what it was but really wanted to try.

I think Alan did a great job, and we even recorded the first hour of it. (hopefully it will get up on here??) But some of the tools for PLN (regarding to Internet Web Based 2.0 tools), you just need to jump in head first. Just commit yourself to something new and use it for a month. Reevaluate after that month. Keep adding new tools each month. You need to find what works best for you. You need to find which social bookmarking service you like, personally I like Diigo the most.

It was great, I got to meet some new people and add them to my list of PLN!

Thanks for sharing that, Dan. I am glad to get a perspective from the audience, albeit from somone who is in the know with web 2.0 already. I shared on Twitter that when I discussed Twitter, I got blank stares from 20 people. This morning I presented again to a smaller group of about 12. Same percentages though. About 2 people who had even heard the term Web 2.0. So most of my material was brand new to them and whether or not they are going to try out some of the tools I introduced, only time will tell. I did pass out my card to everyone who attended and hopefully I'll get some emails from some with a progress report on how they're doing or at least some questions for followup.
