In these tough times I feel it is my duty to advise STAT members when there are opportunities to save money.
If you look at the notes further below you will see one such offer from HP on switches.
Another great offer from Sony is their trade in program for notebook computers. In fact it was just pointed out to me that while Dell's cheapest notebook runs about $399.00 Sony is offering $450 to trade in a Dell.
On a final note we have some opportunities for schools to save money on Office that m…

Hello All,
For some time we have been working on getting discounts that could apply to all our schools.
I am happy to say we have found the first one.
We have used this solution personally and have found this to be a great alternative to basic external hard drives.
For more details on the product please read below.

For those of you that just recently joined the STAT group and for those of you we haven’t met yet, I wanted to explain how Alan, CAF TECH and other teachers are working together to help schools throughout the district.
Alan has been the district contact for computers for several years. Having worked with and worked at many schools he has the ability to bring together members for our yearly STAT meeting as well as disseminate information through various means such as the NING site.

http://www.edweek.org/ew/articles/2009/01/07/16cellphone.h28.html
New educational uses of cellphones are challenging the "turned off and out of sight" rules that many districts have adopted for student cellphones on campus.
I remember when I was in grade school, no one had cell phones. Ok that was in the 80's and early 90's. Even when I was in high school (class of 97) no one had cell phones…

Hello All STAT Members,
It’s exciting to see members that I know already here as well as the chance to meet new ones online.
LEC and other events give us a chance to meet only once a year.
Please contact me with any questions you may have (please check out our STAT page).
In return I will try to pass along timely information about new products that schools are using.
All The Best,
JW @ CAF TECH

This year at CAPSO there were so many good Technology sessions. I couldn't even go to all the ones I wanted to. Then there were all the other Sessions that I would love to attend, like Lucas Fitzgerald's (A member on here) session on Christian Apologetics. I then feel bad for the presenters like Alan who has two sessions and he misses out on some of his own learning time. I digress. I got to sit in on Alan's PLN session on Monday. There was maybe four individuals in there that understood what he…

Last Saturday I was able to attend the first of three training sessions on Google and Google Apps with several teachers from St. John's, Salem, & St. Paul's.
Mark Wagner led the training as we learned some advanced Google search techniques and how to use the collaborative capabilities of Google Docs. The following week Nate Mercier, one of our 6th grade teachers, decided to put some of the training to use with his students. Here's a link to my blog po…

How many blogs should one have running at one time? I think the ideal number would be one. But Since I am on a discovery kick to find out as much as I can about Web.2.0 tools, I needed to try out Wordpress I had heard so many good things about. It was very easy to create a new, free blog there. So rather than spend a whole lot more time today on this blog,
I'm linking you to read all about my "journey" on the Other Blog I started. Feel free to come ba…

STAT News Readers,
I was at the Computer Using Educators Conference (CUE) in Palm Springs March 7-8 and when I stopped at the Google Booth, I picked up a flyer from a whole stack sitting there. It was printed in nice color on card stock and there at the top was a picture of our own Gary Nolan from Lutheran High School, Orange, CA. I have copied that flyer into a pdf file and if I could have, I would have attached it to this email. But instead I have a link here where you can go see it for yours…

My StumbleUpon Page
I was looking at Dave Black's (one of Dave Black's) pages and clicked on the Stumbleupon link. Next thing I know I am installing this and joining as a member. I found two people from my mailbox who are also Stumbleupon members. Leads to some way cool web sites and maybe new friendships or rekindling old ones.

Wow, Our online group has grown to 40 today! Some have pitched in this week and added some great teaching ideas and posed some questions we can all try and answer.
I wanted to share ONE new thing I learned at CUE last week. Seems that whenever I go somewhere and share or listen with other tech teachers, someone is telling me at least one new thing I haven't heard of before. I remember a few years ago when it was Google Earth (originally Keyhole) I was blown away by the satellite images and flyo…

Education Today and Tomorrow

Stimulates thinking and hopefully conversation about the topic of technology in education. (I don't endorse anything els…
