That is the way to go. Focus on your stakeholders (teachers) and get them comfortable with the using these Macbooks as tools for learning. I'd also recommend you look into attending the CUE (Computer Using Educators) conference with these teachers to expose them to ideas and give them the opportunity to mingle with teachers from other schools that are implementing technology. We are hoping to also get Apple to sponsor a lab at the upcoming LEC conference in November. If this is for sure we will be having several of our staff putting on workshops for Lutheran educators. I think I may even have a class too for IT and support staff.
Hey Dawn!
Yes we are an all Mac 1-to-1 laptop school. We just started our second year of a full implementation. All of our 3-8 graders have laptops, in fact, we just re-distributed them today.
One of the keys to our program was getting our faculty laptops first and following up immediately with professional development. We actually had Apple send a trainer which specialized in the classroom use of technology by teachers and students. It is a little pricey but worth it for the initial implementation. If you can't swing the funds for that I'd look at find 3rd party trainer also ideally specializing in the training teachers.
How proficient are the teachers that are receiving the Macbooks?
How will they be used in the classroom? What computers will the students be using?
Dawn, Welcome aboard. Glad you could join us. I am glad someone from CAPSO finally took up my offer to grow electronically. Add a picture and some other information about yourself too.
