I have been using Windows 7 for a while, have you? If your school is leasing the Windows XP Professional upgrade you may also want to try the Windows 7 upgrade now.
You mentioned in your email that some schools might be a "Microsoft School Agreement Member". How would I know? (I've been trying to find a copy of Windows XP since I've been here (about a year now) and we do not seem to have one.)
Also, it has been Standard Operating Procedure for me to wait for Service Pack Two (at least) to be released before I install any Microsoft software (OS or otherwise) to a production system. (Windows ME and Windows Vista as operating systems and Office 2000 and Internet Information Server 6 as non-OS code should be sufficient evidence to that point.) Having said that, I intend to continue following my own counsel and plan to let others beta test Microsoft's software for them.
.oO(I might even take a walk on the dark side and begin a dialog with Apple reps...)
Robert, I sent a copy of Windows XP to you this summer. Did you you get it? I know what you mean about waiting for SP2, etc. I sure did with XP and definitely skipped Vista almost all together. But I sure like the way 7 is working with anything I've tried so far. If you still need me to send another copy of Windows XP Pro, please send me an email ASAP to alutz@stpaulsorange.org with your school details again. Alan
The desktop package is for upgrading to Windows XP Professional and includes Office 2007. It'a around $42 per year per computer. It includes upgrades to whatever Microsoft comes out with during the year. So this year, everyone using it gets to upgrade from XP Pro to Window 7 Pro if they want to. We start a new contract Jan 1 2010 as the contract is on a calendar year basis.
